Style your home

If your anything like us, then zjooshing a space is second nature, we love to fluff, poof, karate chop, and ever so slightly move an object to make a space feel just right. But, if you’re not that way inclined and still love to have a neat, stylish cohesive space with items that make you smile, then this blog feature might be of some interest to you! Of course, you can still stick around and have a read if you’re a pro at the zjooshing, I’m sure it’s right up your ally anyway.

With how the last few years have been globally, we’re seeing an emphasis on making spaces in our homes multi-functional yet still aesthetically pleasing. Adding in different design elements, and of course personal style, helps with achieving the perfect cohesive work and relaxing interior space.

Styling your home can be easier than you think. Start by choosing a color palette that suits your tastes and works with your existing decor. Think about adding some interesting textures and patterns, like a rug or throw pillows, to give the room an extra layer of visual interest and a pop of colour. Don’t be afraid to mix and match colours and textures to give the space dimension and depth. Use different materials, like wood, metal, and fabric, to create an interesting and inviting atmosphere. If you’re looking for something more permanent, consider adding some statement pieces such as an armchair, credenza to display pieces on or artwork.

Reflect on the negative space surrounding objects and furniture in the room, this is also known as "breathing space" and plays an important role in creating balance and harmony in interior design. Finally, make sure to accessorize with items that reflect your personal style, such as books, vases, candles, plants or trinkets. With a few creative touches, you can give your home a unique and stylish look!

This month on the blog we have a selection of talented, creative entrepreneurs that excel in their crafts, interior design just got a whole lot better with these creatives on the scene! You’ll never look back or regret investing in one of their products, whether it be a custom made resin handle, a beautifully made decorative candle, eye catching coffee mugs or a one of kind piece of art that you won’t want to stop staring at…they will all give that WOW factor in your home.

The fab four this month are: Studio Blaze ~ Candle maker, The Arc Dept. ~ Resin artist, Petrina Jose ~ Artist & Designer, and Kami & Kindred ~Ceramics.

Just enjoy the process, and the result will be magic!

Studio Blaze

Studio Blaze is a small business run by Badé, who individually hand pours each candle from her Christchurch studio. You can expect to receive your very own unique candle made with love and care.

Studio Blaze uses the best quality soy wax and equipment sourced from small local businesses from around New Zealand. With the earth and environment in mind, Studio Blaze are dedicated to providing natural products by using 100% natural soy wax, cotton wicks, and right down to their eco friendly packaging.

"I have chosen effortless pieces for Studio Blaze's collection that I know will make statement pieces and elevate space"

                                                      ~ Bade Savas

Badé wanted to create Studio Blaze to bring her passion of candles and art together, as she would always gravitate towards the candle and craft sections while shopping.

By being among the first few sculptural candle makers in New Zealand, she thrives for her customers to feel that they have a unique piece of art in their space. This is whether they choose to light their candle or not. There is over 20 different styles of sculptural candles to choose from in the Studio Blaze collection. They are sold as an individual item or in sets aswell, for those times when you just can’t decide. Wholesale is also an option too, for stocking their candles or purchasing a bulk order for weddings, events, parties, corporate gifts etc. Check our their website for more info and styles.

Sally McDonald, owner and founder of The Arc Dept, has always had a huge appreciation for a beautiful object, be it furniture, lighting or ceramics.

As an interior designer, She is drawn to designing and detailing joinery. “Getting a junction right and making it it's own work of art is so satisfying!”

Designing a space around a piece of art is the idea around making the joinery pull the feature, instead of an afterthought at the end of the design process.

The Arc Dept.

Carmen Resin Pull ~ Handmade resin joinery & door pulls, each with their own unique patterning and customizable colourways to suit your project’s scheme to add some tonal texture or bright feature. A household favourite!

Spliced Vase ~ Sally teamed up with Lucy Houghton of Lu Diamond to design a series of sculptural, single stem vases hand cast in solid resin. Spliced celebrates unexpected form and a playful colour palette – elements that are central to each of the designer’s individual practice. Each vase is shaped and finished by hand by Sally in the pair’s new Taranaki studio, and the palette was developed together as a nod to their shared love of bold interpretations of colour. The angular vases when paired with a single stem create a sculptural design object for the home. Sally’s large scale resin pieces feature in high end interior spaces and Lucy is sought after for her artistic take on floral arrangements. The vases are a chance for anyone with an eye for considered detail to secure their own piece of art in function.

Petrina J. Art

Where 'pretty' meets 'pattern'! Petrina Jose is a self taught artist based in a coastal town an hours drive north of Auckland where she lives with her husband and two young children. A graphic designer by trade, she was instinctively inspired to start painting around the birth of her second child. But it wasn't until a couple of years later, she finally picked up a paintbrush and has been obsessed ever since. A huge career highlight so far was being selected as a 'Jumbed Art Superstar Finalist' in 2022 and has since sold many pieces with the leading Australian store.  Patrina paints in her home based studio mostly in the evenings and says this is the best time to really get into a beautiful flow state of mind. Her recent still life work features a range of florals always teamed with a strong use of pattern, checks or stripes with a very unique and strong graphic composition style. Coming up with the most interesting and aesthetically pleasing colour combinations is Petrina's favourite part about painting, "I could literally mix and create new colours all day". Her palette consists of gorgeous pastels always teamed with a deep tan or chartreuse, and recently some lovely neon pastel peach tones with powder blues. You can find more of Petrina's work on Instragram @petrina.j_art and on her website, link below.

Kami & Kindred

Hayley Thomas is an artist and designer working with clay as her primary medium. She has a strong interest in organic abstract forms, natural materials and traditional methods. Her works embrace the wabi-sabi Japanese philosophy and Scandinavian minimalist aesthetics.

Kami & Kindred is all about natural beauty and embracing a softer, slower way of life. A carefully crafted collection of hand-made, ceramic jewellery and homewares of both beauty and function for everyday essential rituals.

Each item is handcrafted by Hayley, in every sense of the word. The process includes sourcing natural materials, working the clay, wheel throwing or hand-building the domestic ware, mixing, and applying specialty glazes. Everything is made in her 100% solar powered studio.

The pieces in her latest collection are inspired by days spent seaside, and the various forms washed up on shore.

“made with the intention of inspiring a slower way of life - whether it be mornings spent between soft linen sheets
sipping tea, gatherings around the table, or weekends wandering by the sea barefoot and sun-kissed”.
